Justice & Peace Scotland is responsible for educating, advocating, and campaigning on issues concerning international peace and non-violence; human rights and social justice; refugees and asylum; care for creation and climate justice; and poverty and workers’ rights. All activity of Justice & Peace Scotland is carried out in accordance with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and gospel values.
The National Justice and Peace Commission was first established in 1979 and operates under the name of Justice & Peace Scotland. It exists to enable the Catholic Church in Scotland to respond to situations of injustice in a variety of contexts at local, national and international levels. To this end, J&P Scotland is regularly involved in hosting events or workshops, running campaigns, advocating on a wide range of issues, and visiting parishes, schools, and other organisations to foster action around Catholic Social Teaching and to support diocesan and parish Justice and Peace Groups in their work.
Justice & Peace Scotland is part of a wider justice and peace network that is overseen by the Vatican Dicastery for Integral Human Development. We are represented at Justice & Peace Europe and attend their meetings and general assemblies twice per year.
